Vocational Studies

Practical Skills, Nationally Recognized Certification

Our Vocational Studies programme follows Uganda's Business, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (BTVET) framework, combining hands-on workshop training with classroom and online theory instruction. Learners are assessed and certified by national bodies — the Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB) and the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) — giving graduates recognized qualifications and practical skills for the workplace.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) issues competency-based Certificates of Competence, assessed against practical workplace skill standards and often suited to Primary 7 leavers or those with informal trade experience. UBTEB (the Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board) awards more classroom-and-workshop-based National Certificates and Diplomas, typically for UCE leavers and above. We help you choose the right pathway for your entry qualifications and goals.
Yes. Uganda's BTVET framework is designed with progression in mind — many National Certificate holders go on to pursue Diplomas at technical institutes or universities such as Kyambogo University, and DIT Certificate of Competence holders can progress toward higher UBTEB qualifications with further study.
Practical trades like Plumbing, Electrical Installation, and Automotive Mechanics require hands-on workshop practice, which cannot be replaced online. We deliver the practical component on campus, while theory lessons, revision, and assessment preparation are available online to reduce time on campus.
Requirements depend on the certification level: Primary 7 leavers with a PLE result can enter DIT-assessed or Junior Technical Certificate pathways, while Senior 4 (UCE) leavers qualify for the two-year UBTEB National Certificate pathway. We assess each applicant individually against the trade area they're interested in.
Yes. We support graduates with links to workplace attachments and apprenticeship opportunities in fields such as construction, automotive, and electrical work, helping translate certification into real work experience.
This varies by pathway: DIT Certificate of Competence programmes are typically shorter and modular, the Uganda Junior Technical Certificate runs over three years, and UBTEB National Certificates typically run over two years. We confirm exact durations with you based on your chosen trade area and entry point.
